Woodville are calling on their green and gold army to help them break their senior title drought in today's RUSA Grand Finals

There's been a buzz around Gleneagles Reserve this season with the U16s claiming silverware last week but their unbeaten women's side remains the benchmark - and they've unfinished business to attend.

Defeat in last year's grand final has sparked a fire at Woodville and women's assistant coach Tony Bird is eager to see his minor premiers go one better.

"We are pleased with the progress that we have made this season ... and we have had an eye on the main prize from the start of the year," Bird said.

"A new coaching team has been in place for 2024 under Tim Stavast, who has refined the playing structure and seen a growth in the squad - increased numbers, introducing more competition for places (and) also an increase in the level of rugby IQ of the team."

"The team has got to where we are today thanks to the groundwork put in by previous coaches, the hard work put in by the past and present players, and the support the team provides to one another.

"We are going into the game with the aim of doing everything the best we can on the pitch, and hope that it is enough to come away with the chocolates."

Bird paid tribute to grand final rivals and two-time reigning champions Souths but said his side had fought hard to become this year's "team to beat".

"(We're) hoping to be the first women’s flag for Woodville and the clubs first senior premiership for many decades," Bird said.

"(We're) expecting there will be huge number of supporters in green and gold as we have the backing of the club, from juniors through to the senior men.

"We know that Souths has a huge legacy in Women’s rugby in SA and are the team everyone wants to emulate, they have great players in the team and they always do something special.

"During the season we became the team to beat, and have taken on those challenges and got to where we are today by embracing those challenges and seeing the rewards.

"We know that both teams will go out there and will play some exciting rugby and it will be a great for the rugby fans."
