Black Falcons Men and Women
The South Australian Black Falcons trace their origins to the state’s first representative rugby union side, which took the field in 1933.
In the 1990s, the seven-a-side South Australian Black Falcons men’s team competed in the Adelaide International Sevens tournament, helping to showcase the state’s talent on the national sevens stage.
The Black Falcons name was officially adopted in 2000 for South Australia’s men’s team competing in the Australian Rugby Shield. The team participated in every Shield competition until the competition concluded after the 2008 season.
Women’s representative rugby in South Australia began in 1996 with the formation of the Southern Warriors, marking the start of the state’s proud history in women’s rugby.
Today, the Black Falcons continue to represent South Australia in invitational fixtures against other states. The Men’s Black Falcons squad is selected from players competing in the Premier Men’s Competition, while the Women’s Black Falcons are chosen from the Women’s Competition, highlighting the best talent in South Australian rugby.
