Rugby Union SA held its Annual General Meeting, on the 13th of May.

The meeting was held via webinar to adhere to current Government health and safety regulations, with the 2019 Annual Report with full financials released to the community on the 6th of April.

Rugby Union SAs finances have been audited by PERKS and signed off as a going concern, which is good news in this current economic climate.

The meeting endorsed Michael von Berg, OAM MC to continue as President of the Union for another term, as well as endorsing Meredith Knowler to continue as a Director, now in her 13th year.

At the closing of the 2019 accounts, CEO Carl Jones also discussed how Rugby Union SA will be supporting clubs moving forward, as we prepare for training and season 2020.

“We have three options for a season which are not locked in but to be put forward to the Competition Advisory Group, with a 10-week, 12-week and 14-week season option. This is all subject to public health assessment, but food for thought and something that we would like feedback from clubs.”

“We are looking to give funds back to clubs to help them prepare with safety equipment and products so that training can begin.”

“We are able to release $10,000 - $200 per club and $100 for every team from Under 12s and higher, that were registered this year. If we do get back to full play for 12 rounds, we can discuss another amount of help further down the track. But we need to be careful that we don’t over extend ourselves, and if there is a second wave, we need to be able to sustain status quo through the second wave.”

Mike von Berg in closing, had some wonderful memories from season 2019, no more than the Grand Finals of the U12s, which was an extraordinary game.

“I would like to thank Carl, Rose and the staff, Tom Johnston our Honorary Council, Josh Daly our Company Secretary, Justin Courtney and our Board for their leadership and direction.”

“Good leaders show themselves in tough times, and these are tough times. I want to thank all the Presidents and Administrators within each club; continue to motivate your supporters and your players, even your committees and I look forward to seeing you all in season 2020”
