Brighton host Burnside in the RUSA Premier Grade Round 02

A 79th minute Ethan Daszkowski try proved the matchwinner in Brighton's dramatic 22-21 victory over Burnside last weekend.

With his Tigers trailing by six points and down to 14 men in the dying stages, Daszkowski seized his moment with a heads-up play from the ruckbase that split the Burnside defence and saw him dot down beside the sticks, rendering Cameron Field's conversion a mere formality.

A Tigers win - let alone a bonus-point victory - seemed unlikely after defending premiers Burnside raced out to a 21-5 lead after half an hour.

Burnside tighthead prop Hasler Monda bagged an early double, the first coming in the 12th minute and second via a 31st minute lineout overthrow, to get the ball rolling either side of a Nicholas Simpson try stemming from a well-worked Tigers maul.

Burnside surged further in front through inside centre Keanu Eliepa, who regathered a deft chip into Brighton's 22m and rolled over the chalk shortly before the break.

However Seth Clayton would have the last laugh heading into oranges with the Tigers lock racing away in identical fashion to Simpson's maul try and closing the half time buffer to 21-10.

Brighton flyhalf Grant Murdoch shook off his early kicking wobbles with a star turn in the second half, breaking apart the Burnside defence and backing up Pita Nakawara to send Jaden Phillips over in the 56th minute.

Connor McCarty's wide conversion attempt sailed just wide to keep the margin at six points but Brighton were relentless in the dying stages, overcoming a Pita Nakarawa yellow card and surviving a late Eliepa penalty goal attempt before Simpson's clutch turnover paved way for Daszkowski's final flourish.

Burnside had their chance to snatch it back with the final play after Brighton conceded a penalty for not rolling away at the ruck.

Yet it wasn't to be for the visitors with Eliepa's penalty goal attempt sailing right, sparking jubilant scenes for the yellow and black faithful.

In other Premier Grade results, hat-trick hero Timothy Cooper headlined Adelaide University's 31-27 win over Barossa while Albert Howard, Stewart Nutt and Dominic Lane bagged doubles in Old Collegians' 65-7 rout of Onkaparinga.

In the Women's competition, Adelaide Uni and Onkas racked up big wins over Barossa and Port Collegians respectively while Woodville and Souths also banked maximum points.

Onkas, Brighton and Souths remain unbeaten in Reserve Grade with the Tigers (Black) and Rams are 2-0 in Third Grade.
