Barossa Rams Rugby Club has received funding from the Australian Rugby Foundation to purchase a new scrum machine, strengthening player safety, skill development, and community rugby in the Barossa Valley.
Ahead of the new season, the Club has taken delivery of a brand-new scrum machine funded through the Australian Rugby Foundation’s (ARF) 2025 Grassroots Rugby Grant Program.

The new equipment will help local players train safely and with confidence - an important step for the Barossa rugby community as it continues to grow the game at a local level.
The ARF, the official Philanthropic arm of Rugby Australia, is dedicated to strengthening rugby from the ground up. Through its Grassroots Rugby pillar, the Foundation has delivered $250,000 in grants to support community clubs with essential training equipment and coaching resources, helping to create safer and more sustainable environments for players and volunteers.
A total of 18 clubs across the country were successful in a competitive tender process to receive a scrum machine through the 2025 program.
“Supporting community clubs and strengthening the grassroots game is at the heart of what the Foundation does,” said Australian Rugby Foundation General Manager, Holly Kelsall.
“Scrummaging is such a core part of rugby’s identity - it’s where teamwork, strength and safety come together. These grants help strengthen our rugby family by making a real difference where it matters most - in local communities, with the people who bring the game to life every weekend.”
Barossa Rams Rugby Club President, Fraser Vivian, said the new equipment would make an immediate difference.
“As a small but growing community rugby club, the Australian Rugby Foundation grant allows us to provide quality training equipment to our playing groups,” he said. “The scrum machine will be a very welcome replacement for our very aged sled. I can’t thank the Foundation enough for the opportunity to update our equipment.”
In addition to Grassroots Rugby, the Australian Rugby Foundation invests across five key pillars: Women’s Rugby, First Nations and Pacific Islands Rugby, Rugby Welfare, and High Performance Rugby, helping to develop and support players at every stage - from local club fields to the international arena.
