Rugby Union South Australia (RUSA) was one of the six signatories on a letter asking for the Chairman, Hamish McLennan to step down from his role with Rugby Australia (RA).

This decision was not made lightly and was as a result of considerable consideration and robust discussions, taking into account a number of recent events.

This process was purely an internal Rugby matter; RA is a member organisation, of which RUSA is a member which holds a vote.

In response to media statements from the departing chair, Test matches were awarded to Adelaide as a result of a lengthy government process and negotiation.

RUSA has never been closer with SA State Government, working collaboratively on upcoming test matches and associated events.

Only recently, collaboratively the SA State Government and RUSA presented to World Rugby and the British and Irish Lions.

Looking forward, RUSA is excited about the appointment of Daniel Herbert as the new Chairman of Rugby in Australia and looking forward to working with him and his team.

RUSA’s joint statement with ACT and Southern NSW, Queensland, West Australia, Northern Territory and Tasmanian Rugby Unions can be seen here.
