Rugby Australia will be running a Level 2 Immediate Care in Rugby Course (ICIR), which is recognised by World Rugby as the minimum medical standard for all elite pitch-side practitioners (doctors, physios, nurses, paramedics) to work in elite rugby.

It is also run for medical staff working in club and school rugby. The Level 2 ICIR is aimed at providing health care and allied health care professionals working in rugby the ability to assess, stabilise and package for removal to a safe area awaiting the arrival of advanced care provision. The course is 2-day, competency-based accreditation course for doctors and healthcare professionals, preparing them to provide optimal pitch side immediate trauma and medical care for players by standardising their approach, assessment and delivery of care.

Summary Details:

  • Professional Pre-requisite: The course is available for healthcare practitioners who are able to be registered with AHPRA (doctors, physios, nurses, paramedics).
  • Date: Thursday 25 and Friday 26 August. The exact timings have not been finalised yet – generally the course would be 2 days of 8:30am-5pm however, as there is a Rugby Union South Australia lunch on Friday 26 that you may be attending. RA may need to amend this. If there are a large number of candidates attending the lunch RA may run the course with a very long day on the Thursday and an early start on the Friday to be finished by lunch. As such, if you could please advise whether you are attending the lunch. RA will then finalise the times and recirculate for confirmation.
  • Cost: As RA have not run a course in Adelaide before, they will be offering this course free of charge.
  • Post-Course Requirement: For doctors attending the course, RA are requesting you assist as a Match Day Doctor for the Australian Rugby Shield running at Brighton and Woodville from 29 September – 3 October. RA will provide more information to candidates attending about the tournament and confirm availability to assist.
