Bob Aitken is a stalwart of Onkaparinga Rugby club. His dedication and commitment to his beloved Onkas began in the early 1980s as a player, when Onkaparinga was based at O’Sullivans Beach. Since then his profile and love for the game has included:

  • Senior Player - 1983 - 1993 (109 games)
  • Committee Member (10+ years)
  • Bar Manager (5+ years)
  • Premier Grade Team Manager (1989 – 2024 current)
  • Club President (2000 -2003)
  • Club Volunteer of the Year Award Winner

Bob took on the club's registrar role when George Doughty stood down. Although he has stepped down from the manager's role due to health issues, he continues to assist the club with the registrar role, especially on Saturday mornings when players are trying to register. He ensures they are placed into the appropriate playing groups via RX.

“Over the years that I have worked with Bob, his work ethic hasn’t altered. He loves seeing young kids playing rugby and is always encouraging them - he never runs anyone down and whether we win or lose he always says the same thing after a match ‘Chris we can only play with what we have’. Just the best clubman I have ever had the pleasure to work with.” Says fellow manager, Chris Grindle.

In 2021, Onkaparinga Rugby Club renamed their annual awards night in dedication to Bob, now affectionately known as “The Bobbys,” which not only recognized the value of Bob Aitken and his contribution to the club but also acknowledges those who achieve each year for the club.
