Rugby is a team game and so is running a rugby season! We have just completed round 5 of our 18-round home-and-away 2025 season, and it's already been a busy and exciting year for our code in South Australia.
With changes underway and an eventful schedule ahead, we felt this was a good time to give you, the rugby community, an update. Feel free to share this information with anyone who feels passionate about our game, or who may be curious about how they can get involved in our sport.
We have three club development officers in place who are working hard to make in ways into local schools and acknowledge these roles will evolve in time to ensure the servicing of clubs and competition in the best possible way.
This year we looked at how we reignite the school’s competition under a hybrid model and working to bridge girls Under 14 and Under 16 age groups. While both are in the initial stages, we are extremely excited to take early steps in the development of the game with these important player groups.
We continue to look at funding models to support our senior representative Black Falcon sides and have secured a new integrity process. Plus, State Representative Trials for boys and girls are coming up ahead of the exciting national school’s competition in QLD in July.
Additionally, you may be aware we are in the process of recruiting a new CEO. This process is well advanced, with a considerable number of quality applicants, so we expect to have an announcement for you soon. In the meantime, it is 'business as usual' for the professional, tight team at RUSA as they continue to deliver the 2025 rugby season. The board has put support arrangements in place for the staff during this transitional period to help support our clubs, which of course remain the beating heart of rugby in South Australia.
As the season progresses, our social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram) along with Rugby Xplorer are key avenues for information and updates for clubs and fans of our game.
Finally, we are continuing to work with Rugby Australia, SATC and the State Government to welcome the British and Irish Lions to Adelaide during July and showcase our game to the wider community during this time. In a decision that will no doubt ensure the smooth delivery of this event; Rugby Australia have contracted our former CEO Carl Jones during this time to help ensure its success.
Now is an exciting time to be involved in rugby, so we look forward to seeing you at a game soon.
