Woodville Rugby Union Club field junior teams in all grades for first time!

This Saturday, 4th July, sees Woodville Rugby Union Football Club celebrate 2 major milestones in their long & proud history.

For the first time since being established in 1933, Woodville RUFC will have a full complement of junior teams in all junior grades in the SA Rugby Union season. It is also the return of Woodville’s U18 side which has not been seen at Woodville RUFC in over 25 years.

As only the second ever game in front of their newly built Clubhouse, there will be over 150 junior players taking to the field from 8am in the U6/7s & U8s grades through to the U18s at 2pm.

Juniors started back at Woodville in 2013 with only 8 players and, through the introduction of the Junior Summer Academy running from February – March annually, the club saw team numbers grow & grow to where they are today.

Over the last 2 years we have celebrated over 30 players milestone celebrations of 50 Games. This year, 3 of those original 8 players will celebrate 100 games. Another great milestone for not only the individual, but for the club as a whole.

As President Graeme Gibson recalls, "This is the culmination of 8 years of hard work from the committee & all those involved in the club. It is an exciting time to be at the club with us having a full day of matches & being able to give the kids a place to come & enjoy their rugby.”

Life member Peter Brown comments “What a proud occasion for the MIGHTY WASPS! Congrats to all who have been involved in achieving this magnificent moment. Special thanks to the Junior Committee and the tremendous band of tireless workers over the years. Persistence & Perseverance certainly has paid off.”

This week sees Woodville compete against strong rivals Adelaide University with the U18s competing against Brighton.
