Savage, a life member of Woodville Rugby Club, received the honour for his significant contribution to Lions Club International, and to Rugby Union.

The Royal Park resident has a 30-year association with the Lions Club and was Club Chairman of Lions Club International Foundation until 2019.

Savage is a former Board Member and Deputy President of the South Australian Rugby Union as well serving as President, Secretary and Treasurer of Woodville Rugby Club. He was awarded life membership of the club in 2007 after initially joining ‘the Wasps’ back in 1992.

Rugby Australia interim CEO, Rob Clarke said: “We congratulate David for joining the distinguished list of Honours recipients from Rugby.

“David has dedicated most of life to helping others through the Lions Club, as well as being a member and volunteer spanning almost three decades at one of South Australia’s oldest Rugby clubs, the Woodville Rugby Club.

“David’s recognition is thoroughly deserved, and we hope he gets to sit back and reflect on his achievement with his family today and I’m sure he’s excited to see his Wasps back in action when the competition gets underway on June 27.”
