Life Members
Since 1937, SA Rugby Union has honoured its tireless workers and highest achievers by presenting life memberships to those who have provided outstanding service to the Union.
Life Membership of Rugby Union SA is available in recognition of exceptional service to the sport of rugby union and may be granted to individuals under the following criteria:
- A Director, Officer, Appointee or Servant having served on or at the direction of Rugby Union for an accumulated period of not less than 10 calendar years. This includes a coach and manager. Eligible nominees must also display distinguished service to the game of Rugby Union within South Australia.
- A Player who shall have played state rugby for a period of 5 years AND participated in a minimum of 180 senior RUSA sanctioned matches in not less than 10 seasons with one or more affiliated clubs. Eligible nominees must also display distinguished service to the game of Rugby Union within South Australia.
- Distinguished service to South Australian Rugby can include but not limited to:
- Captain of a state team
- Award recipient at the RUSA Annual Awards night – this can include Best & Fairest winner, best tackler, best forward or best back.
- Award recipient at Club level – this can include Best & Fairest winner, best tackler, best forward or best back.
- Providing services to community rugby.
- Consideration needs to be given for when South Australia does not compete at a State Level.
- Distinguished service to South Australian Rugby can include but not limited to:
- A Referee who has been appointed to not less than 250 rugby matches in total in not less than 10 seasons. Eligible nominees must also display distinguished service to the game of Rugby Union within South Australia.
- Distinguished service to South Australian Rugby can include but not limited to:
- Grand Final Appointments as a Referee
- Service on the Executive Committee
- Providing services to community rugby.
- Distinguished service to South Australian Rugby can include but not limited to:
- Referee Coach appointments, with a written report will be classed as a single match.
- Assistant Referee appointments for one day will be classed as a single match.
Individuals can continue to have an active role within the rugby community.
Consequences of Life Membership Each Life Member shall receive
- A life membership medallion;
- Placement of their name and year on an honour board designed for that purpose
- Free entry into RUSA official functions (including finals series and presentation nights).
