Rugby Union SA held its Annual General Meeting, on the 25th of May 2022.

Rugby Union SA continues to report consistent, strong financials in 2021 reporting a surplus of $25,744. This is particularly encouraging given the various lockdowns from COVID outbreaks and the ceasing of government stimulus with covid grants.

Michael Hayes continues a further 3-year term as Member-Elected Director and is joined by Graeme Gibson who will start his 3-year Member-Elected term.

Board-Elected Director appointments were also confirmed with David Humble starting a 2-year term, and Neil Tunnah taking on the role of alternate director while Elena Casciano steps back for 12 months.

Life Members were also endorsed during the proceedings. Player Life Members Inductees were Tim Mattin from Port Adelaide and Richard Wasley from Brighton.

Wally Bell was accepted as Life Member for his many years of service to the Union.

“Its fantastic that we can recognise the playing achievements these gentlemen have given to the game here in South Australia, not only at club level but also at State level.

“Wally Bell has been involved in South Australian rugby for over 40 years, as either a player, coach, administrator, President, Director or Chairman. He has also served on a number of committees to assist in the staging of the Rugby World Cup games held in Adelaide in 2003, Provincial Rugby Sevens, International Rugby Sevens.”

Mike von Berg in closing, gave thanks to our community.

“Thanks for the fantastic efforts of the board, members, member clubs, referees as well as volunteers for making 2021 a successful season. There is a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes to make game days run so smoothly, and this is a big credit to all those involved.”
