Rugby Union South Australia’s AGM is scheduled for Wednesday, 17th May at 6:30pm in the Sport SA Training Room, Military Road, West Beach.

This year will see the election of two directors and we therefore require all Member Clubs to be present to ensure the voting process is representative of the members. If your Member Club cannot be present on the evening, advise asap and we will organize for a ballot paper to be sent for Director nomination. (Member Clubs are all 11 active clubs + Schools Rugby Union & Referees Association)

 

Mike Hayes | Director Nomination

I am a practicing solicitor in Adelaide and a partner of a national law firm

I am also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and have a keen interest in corporate governance

I am passionate about rugby.

I have been involved with the South Australian Rugby Union for the last three years and I am a member of the South Australian Referees Associations (SARURA)

I am a member of Friends of Rugby and an active referee across most grades

I expect to continue refereeing during the 2019 season. In this regard, I have assisted at the Beach 5s and Elizabeth 7s and will referee pre-season games.

I am independent and not affiliated to a local club (except SARURA)

I shall be an objective and impartial member of the Board

I shall act in the best interests of rugby union and, in particular, the South Australian Rugby Union.I have string organizational skills and do what I say (actions speak louder than words)I have tried and tested negotiation skills and am a good listener

I expect to engage with members and further promote the interest of rugby union in this State.

 

Marcus Lodge | Director Nomination

Marcus has been involved with South Australian rugby for the last 30 years. He started playing with the Port Adelaide Rugby Union Football club in 1989 and continued as a player until the late 1990s. Marcus returned to playing fourth grade in 2006 only retiring for the last time in 2013. He has also played Golden Oldies Festivals and within the local over 35s program.

Marcus has served on the Port Adelaide Committee since 2006 and most currently as a Director for Rugby Union SA since 2016.

In all this time, Marcus has also been closely involved in the South Australian Rugby Union, assisting with the planning, organising and the running of numerous rugby events. During his time as a Director, has been a regular attendee with the Rugby Advisory Group, Finals Eligibility and the Match Management Committee.

Marcus runs his own business and he brings negotiation skills, financial acumen and well-developed personal skills.

 

Patrick O’Sullivan | Director Nomination

Patrick O’Sullivan is a Judge of the District Court of South Australia. He commenced legal practice in 1981 and has worked continually in civil and commercial law since that time. He practised exclusively as a Barrister between 1997 and 2018, having been appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2008.

He commenced playing rugby union in South Australia in 1977 for what was then Waratahs (later Burnside Juniors). He toured extensively as both a senior and junior including the South Australian Under 18 Tour to the UK in 1978 and the Under 24 Development Tour to New Zealand. He has represented the State in Under 19 Schoolboys, Under 21s and in Seniors. He played First Grade for 10 years.

Between 1988 and 1992 he lived and worked in Hong Kong during which time he played First Grade rugby union. After his return to Australia he commenced coaching both junior and senior rugby from about 2000 until 2015, attaining level 2 accreditation. He was closely involved in re-establishing an Under 18 side at Burnside in 2011.

He has also been involved in club administration for many years as a committee member.

He is a life member of Burnside and recommenced coaching in 2019.

He is passionate about rugby and the continual growing and development of the game both in South Australia and Australia.
